Came across an interesting definition for the word “awareness” today.
Knowledge that something exists, or understanding of a situation or subject at the present time based on information or experience.
What struck me was the 2nd half of that definition, “at the present time based on information or experience.”
I never thought of it as being temporal. It’s easier to think, or want it to be something that is attainable. That there is some sort of enlightenment of self that will make us now “aware” forever. But I’m seeing that this too is a process, a journey. That it follows along with something else that I’ve been learning and coming to slowly understand, people are all trying to make the best decisions they can with the information they have at the moment. At this particular moment in time.
Often when I think of awareness, I think of it as understanding my faults, inadequacies, where I fall short. But that’s not a complete picture of awareness because it lacks the full picture. It fails to acknowledge the positives, the strengths, the times I excelled. To look, or try to look, at things as they are… temporal. We make hundreds of decisions a day, which decisions do we choose to look at?
